Steve was diagnosed with HIV in 1994. He contracted the Virus in 1993 in Brazil from a woman (sexually) who didn't know she was infected. By the time Steve tracked her down, in the mid 90's, she had alreday passed away - of AIDS.
"It was something that belonged to the gay scene and junkies,is what I thought back then. I didn't know I was at risk" says Steve.

Steve has written a play in '94 about living with HIV and has given many talks at universties and schools in the 90's.

Making this video is a way to contribute to the battle against HIV/AIDS. Unfortunatly he is unable to work ,due to his health. Steve: "My guts controle my body, but don't control my spirit. I am an infection that will cost the Virus a lot of energy to kill.
I'll fight it in the winters, through coughs, colds and the flus.... I'll fight it in the bad times - and the good... I will NEVER surrender to HIV".

  • ok that still doesnt mean you go have unprotected sex with a random woman in a third world country........

  • @pritycoco61608

Your ignorance is becoming irritating. I had lived there for nearly 5 years and Bia was NOT a 'random' woman... You seem a very bigoted and ignorant individual.

  • but why would you have unprotected sex with a random woman in brazil?

  • @pritycoco61608

Cos it was considered a gay/user problem and I am straight. We are talking 17 years ago friend...........

  • Ya lookin' good steve! I know a couple of bods living with HIV.... it's great that we can now 'live with it' as it was a bit of a quick death sentance years back. More awareness & education is still needed tho'. And you found a diamond with that sweet 16 year old who gave you a kiss after your talk!!! Great stuff & good luck and health for many more years to come. x x x

Thank you for that! Trying to get thru to 1954Jesus1954 was (as you can see) a bit like banging my head on the wall. The word random seems stuck on his mind :s

  • @1954Jesus1954

HIV unfortunatly is still considered a homosexual disease...and this is in 2011! Even though this is far from true! So if this is the case now, I can't imagine what the stigma was like in 1994. I work for a charity supporting people who are HIV Pos, and one daily battle we have is to raise awareness that this virus can effect anyone. I am wondering why you have an issue with a grown man smoking, and I am also confused as to where this "squalor" is that you mention??

  • I totally agree - what a load of self indulgent nonsense. HIV was not considered a gay disease in 1994. HIV was, and is, a heterosexual problem worldwide. And why is he smoking and living in such squalor - HIV doesn't make him do that!

  • I agree - what a load of self indulgent clap trap. HIV was not considered a gay disease in 1994 - it had been and still is a heterosexual problem worldwide. And why is he smoking? and living in such squalor?

  • Of all the people i have had the good fortune to meet while i was going through something painful in my life, i found this chap, turns out he's got HIV, i knew a little about it, but not alot. Steve taught me that while it is not great by any stretch of the imagination, but that it certainly isn't the end.

Keep well bud, you're worth you're weight in gold ya fat bastard lol (especially given current market gold prices) ;o)

    Beware the cheese amigo XoD
