  • @Ethicalthinker - Should have thought of that when you started buying foreign goods because they were cheaper. Gotta love that Datsun.

  • @Hiraghm - and when 'the bottom line' sends manufacturing jobs overseas to be carried out by people who will work for a bowl of rice, you can always put 'pride' on the table to feed the children. You don't have a clue, do you? But then, I suppose you are part of the, "Are there no workhouses?" brigade.

I sincerely hope you never find yourself is such a situation. If you had any true awareness of what is happening around you, you would know how easily it can happen -to good people.

  • It is out of synch. You should re-post.

  • Most people, especially on the left, love this as a condemnation of capitalism.

But, it is a tribute to "pride". "Pride goeth before a fall", and if you lose your pride, you will fall. Pride is what makes you work when you don't want to, makes you try harder, keeps you from cheating, from harming others.

Whether one's pride is taken by the "bottom line" or by social welfare programs, the effect on the individual is the same. Most people have had their pride taken from them by socialism.

  • i absolutely LOVE this movie! I'm glad that Turner Classic Movies shows it regularly. TOP NOTCH in every dept: cast, script, production design, etc. One of the BEST movies of the fifties. THANK YOU for sharing this powerful final scene for the film for us to enjoy....it speaks as strongly to us today as it did then.
