BORN TO BE WILD presents "Water Monsters"
A three-part series
October 5, 12 & 19
In freshwater systems -- rivers, lakes, marshes, even dams -- giant underwater creatures lurk. This October, Born to be Wild introduces the world of freshwater monsters, of gigantic beings that inspire fascination, and sometimes, fear.
In Nueva Ecija's Pantabangan Dam, fishermen tell tales of monster fish the size of children. According to the fishermen, these fish can easily increase in number compared to other known species of fish. But fishermen also notice that as they see these giant fish more often, the native fish in the area seem to go missing. What could these monster creatures be? Kiko Rustia goes on a two-week search in rainy weather to find out.
Meanwhile, Doc Nielsen Donato goes to Agusan del Sur to see the condition of the now famous twenty-one foot saltwater crocodile Lolong. The animal doctor explores how the residents of Agusan lived with these feared creatures for a long time. To find out more about the notorious saltwater crocs found in freshwater marshes, Doc Nielsen also spends his nights in the so-called crocodile-infested area to find out more about the habitat of these giant crocs.
