Test running of reworked Cooee Collectable Melbourne tram fitted with Bachmann Brill bogies, car treatments include removal of window and door components, opening up of the centre doorway, removal of multiple light units at each end, fitting new floor in drop centre section, work to be done, paint and decals, installation of seats in drop centre section, and salvaged side frames from the original static model.

Layout details now include cars , buildings, trees, span poles and street fixtures, all temporary fixed with Blu Tac for trial purposes.

As per usual, cinematography courtesy of the dodgy mobile phone, enjoy

  • the tram tracks are normal everyday code 100 flexi-track and Peco points, available from most decent hobby shops. The trick is the way I build the street surface around the rails, I may have to knock up a video of my technique, thanks for your interest.

  • G'day Funkie, the bastard thing is held all together by screws behind the headlight lenses, you can pry the lenses off with a fine screw driver, be aware its not going to be pretty, behind at each end is a small phillips screw that fixes the body to the chassis, the rest just comes apart ,seats, windows/doors (the old headlight holes are filled with epoxy putty and a white 3mm LED). I have a resturant tram 939 that needs a mod, maybe I'll photo the process and put it on youtube.

  • That would be a great help Glenn, I'll be waiting with anticipation, I gather I'd be better off waiting for your demo for best results with mine..experience etc!

  • Apologies about the delay, been offline for a while due to a computer meltdown

  • Glenn, fantastic work! Please do mention if this will be attending any shows, I think it would definitely appeal!

  • G'day Prof, nothing planned as yet, might try my luck next easter @ hobson bay MRC show at Collingwood, then the Sunshine MRX @ Braybook next year in early Aug.

    Thanks for the positive feedback

  • Very very nice layout! Where d'ou get the tram tracks?

  • I didn't notice it was a model until I checked the comments! O__O

  • Best looking and most scale-accurate-motion models I've seen yet!

  • Great work mate! Love the conversion to w5 800, how did you take the model apart?? I made over an MTA coohee in marigold and green, changed a few things around to make it right including getting no 15 truck escutscheons (the way they were in the met years) and changing decals from 812 to 842 - coohee bodged some of the details on some models (req correction) but otherwise they are terrific.
