In 2008, Cinemark Theatre CEO Alan Stock donated $9,999 toward the successful passage of Proposition 8, which effectively banned gay marriages in California. On November 22, protesters held a large demonstration against Century Theatres in Evanston, encouraging customers to boycott the theater chain and raising awareness about the issue.

  • So that's where Cinemark's money went, instead of restoring the older Century theaters they bought?

Incidentally, back when Century was known as Syufy Enterprises, they were the first theater chain to get rid of union projectionists. They were also the first theater I saw that ran slide ads prior to the show.

  • Sidenote: Century was its own company until Cinemark bought it in 2006. Hence Alan Stock had nothing to do with Century until his company bought it.

  • Very nice
