The RAT-7 promises to be a good survival knife, especially for the money. Good steels, ergonomics, blade shape, and an OK sheath round out a good design. Maybe not the wood splitter the CS Recon Scout is, the RAT-7 nevertheless is a rugged, high value combat/survival blade that measures favorably against much more expensive alternatives.

  • Hey Nutn, love your reviews. I live in Northern Australia, I don't need to process wood for warmth. I do however hunt hogs with a bow off the back of my ATV. Im looking for a knife with a solid sheath (bumpy ride on ATV) and good edge holding capability to cut the the grizzle when I am removing the hog's jaw. Very humid environment here so I need something coated. Any suggestions?

  • hello, i pmed nutn and i just wanted to make sure he got it. again good job keep up the good work TNP!

  • @bookmark71 You are correct! Gimping/jimping are the ridges or notches cut into the blade at the spine. This gives the thumb traction in certain uses of the knife.

  • I am always just BLOWN away at how your vids just stand the test of time bro...not that I should be as your reviews have always been extremely through and real world tested before you put a camera to it for the review. Scoping out the knives for some after Christmas purchases!! :) NJK is calling my name!!!

    Thanks again Nutn!

  • I hope this isn't a dumb question but what is gimping (spelled correctly?)? The ridges on the spine of the blade? I'm not sure what it is for. Your video's are great but once in a while you use a term that isn't in my vocabulary.

  • Hey Nutn, I know it's in the lineup for review, but I was wondering if you have found the Junglas from ESEE to be worth the 150 asking price. I have been staring at that knife for weeks

  • nutn or veri would you recommend this or the ka bar becker bk7

  • @nutnfancy I also need my knife to do the same as mrsachimi1 but will also need it to hold up 3-4 days in the mountains when its winter, i live in Norway so it could get around -30C and will it then hold up if i need it to hack ice?

  • Have you ever played around with the Schrade Extreme Survival Knive schf9? I would like to see how it holds up or compares up to some of these $100 survival knives.

  • Love the sheath in the RAT 7 !
