Hey James you came to my school today! you told us ghost stories! The flying head, the story about jonny! and a few others. You are the bes story teller ever. I check out 2 books at my library from your father Joseph. I will never forget your stories... or you! i will tell them to my friends that go to other schools. thanks ~
The only reason I mention this is Joseph's version seems to focus on the animals changing, but the version I know focuses on the punishments for doing evil and mischief and learning to get along in your surroundings. Joseph's version just skims the surface of that lesson.
I like the Bruchac's...this is an interesting take on this story. I'm not from their area, but in my area this story involves Koluskap's brother Malsom and Malsom's creation Laks. In the version I know Laks convinces the large animals into mischief and destruction and that's why Koluskap changed them to become smaller. He wanted humans and animals to be equals, but the animals sought to rule humans and their punishment was they would become servants of humans and provide food and shelter.
Excellent!
