This is the third part of my reading of Chapter 2, "Why Would Anyone in His Right Mind Want to Teach Sight Words, Anyway?", from Geraldine Rodgers' book of essays, The Case for the Prosecution. At the end of the video, I mention the following methods for preventing and curing reading problems created by the sight word method: Word Mastery by Florence Akin (1913), The Hegge-Kirk-Kirk Remedial Reading Drills (1936), Reading Made Easy with Blend Phonics for First Grade (1980), Webster's 1824 American Spelling Book, and Rudolf Flesch's Phonics Exercises in Why Johnny Can't Read and what you and what you can do about it (1955). All except Flesch's book are available on my web site www.donpotter.net.
