@jaffacake1578 I don't need, nor can I afford and Expedition. It's too big. The Explorer is just the right size for my needs. And a Super Duty? No. I'm not that hardcore. And I couldn't afford the gas. My '94 Ex is perfect. It gets 20mpg, carries all my kids and their stuff, and can go literally anywhere I want to take it. That's the joy of true 4-wheel-drive with low-range. The new Flexplorer is a car-based girly sissymobile. I'm sure soccer Moms everywhere will flock to it.
@tjhaywood100 then stop complaining, if you want a new ford suv, then get something like a new expedition, or if you want a real good ford offroader, then get a ford superduty, or F-150... the truth is, ford did their research, and only 0.04% of explorer customers went offroad in their explorer, so they worked mostly on luxury with the new model, but if you needed it for offroad, it would be very capable, sure it's not as capable as before, but it still has the same ground clearence.
@jaffacake1578 Oh and by the way, I frequently take my '94 Explorer XLT 4x4 off road. It's fun. And the '11 Flexploder couldn't go the places I take my real Explorer because it doesn't have a real 4x4 system with a low range. So there :D
@jaffacake1578 I beg to differ. The platform is based on the Volvo D4 architecture. This is the platform which underpins the Taurus, which is...wait for it...A CAR! A utility vehicle based upon a car platform is a crossover, or CUV, not an SUV. The fact that it has a sideways engine driving the wrong wheels also makes it a CUV.
Notice that the person describing the Flexplorer is a woman. The 2011 Flexplorer was designed for women. Hence the wrong-wheel-drive, sideways engine, no V-8, and front-biased part-time AWD. Basically, the new Flexplorer is a tall Taurus station wagon. The Explorer is dead. Soccer moms and limp-wristed nancyboys will love this new crossover. I have no use for it.
Very informative, but boring to watch. I'd much rather see you guy tearin some sh!t up than describing how it could possibly, in the near future, maybe perhaps, tear some sh!t up.
