EDL Stoke on Trent demo turns into Riot

17 men were yesterday arrested during the English Defence League demonstration in Stoke on Trent as the UAF protest on the other side of the city.

The EDL march (which took place on Saturday January 23) turned into a riot as the far right organisation took to violence as a way of protesting against Islamic Extremists. The protest began outside Wetherspoons

1,600 EDL protesters arrived in Hanley to protest in the city centre. 600 Police Officers were drafted into Stoke-on-Trent to assist on controlling the demonstration.

4 Police Officers were injured during the riot and vehicles were damaged by the English Defence League.

The UAF (Unite Against Facism) were also demonstrating in Hanley opposing the EDL in Stoke-onTrent. The UAF began their campaign at Staffordshire University.
