Inspiration struck me when i read the thread above. the user "thothie" had the exact same problem i did the game would not work under tandy mode. The game would load and music would play and still no graphics were on the screen. having the original disks i thought that key files were missing. those key files were "tanbit01.bin" through "tanbit16.bin" i placed the needed files in the same directory as my thexder game and ran "Thexder.exe" through dosbox. still no luck.

There are Three items needed to get thexder to work in tandy mode. an old computer*, the original disks or disk, and Sierra Unprotection Program v2.01**

load up your old computer and install thexder on the harddrive, run command.com or an ms-dos prompt and install using "installh c:" i highly recommend that you take those files and put them on a floppy disk to make it a PLAY DISK. Copy those files installed on your harddrive onto a floppy disk or leave it on your drive if your file system is FAT.

it seems with the original disk for thexder the program is called "Thexder.com" and not "Thexder.exe" you also do not get the required files for tandy mode when you download it from an abandonware site. Once you used SUP and it completed successfully you can take the game and place it in your dosbox games folder on your other computer and play.

NOTE
*Real old hardware might not be needed. The requirement is ms-dos 6.22, which is what i had floatin around over here. Dos should be used because when i tried running the program in windows 98SE it came back as a corrupted file

  • That's about as far as I could get in this game too...

  • oh man I was looking all over for this game!!! Between this, Kings Quest I and the EA 3D game with the ball you had to maneuver around (what was that ones' name?) I was a pretty happy kid after school.

  • @Ashkc88 it's developed in 1985, lol! The developers of the other game can only dream of being so creative as the ones that thought up Thexder!

  • Cool. But Thexder actually looks and sounds much better on the MSX 1 imho. That version really blew me away back then, considering the MSX 1-limitations. And I've completed the jewel over and over.

  • OMG, this is a blast from the past. I spent SOOOOO many hours playing this on my Tandy 1000 HX when I was 11 o_O WOW, I miss those days!

  • Loved this game when I was like 8 or 9. We had it on Amiga though. Has anyone played Thexder Neo on PS3 or PSP yet, and is it good?

  • It's cool, but it ain't no Modern Warfare 2.
