@TheSugarAndHoney I agree to a certain extent with what you said, but remember that in the 70s and 80s, technology did not allow to have sensitive microphones or mixers, this is why singers used to push their voices to the farthest limit.
These days, sensors can capture bowel movement. Opera is an art that requires large lungs & strong vocal cords, before the singer had to shout for their audience to hear them singing, this is an example of why singers used to shout, and now they whisper! Peace

To the Dalida and Lara discussion below:
I've juse compared both versions, Dalida and Lara.... both are really outstanding, but I have to say, i do like Lara's performance "a bit" more, cuz she's singing more emotionaly and her voice in general is more feminine and the most important point is: she's not screaming!
And everybody is allowed to have an own opinion, you can't tell someone to prefer something, thats how things work :-) take it easy if anyone doesn't share your view!
