How to Update iPhone 4 from 4.XX to iOS 5.0/5.0.1 while preserving Baseband

This video is Only for iPhone 4 Users who depend on Ultrasn0w or Gevey Sim to Unlock their iPhones. This whole operation is done with the help of three things. Redsn0w, iOS 5.0/5.0.1 and a Custom iOS 5.0/5.0.1 firmware (also called No baseband Update firmware). Latest version of iTunes 10.5 is also required.

PLEASE READ IMPORTANT NOTE: Since this is a Tethered Jailbreak, in order to make it Untether simply install 'Corona 5.0.1 Untether' from Cydia after following this video. Doing so will make your jailbreak Untether.

What is Tethered Jailbreak: It Means if your battery dies on your iOS Devices or you reboot/restart , then you will get stuck on recovery screen. To get out of it, simply run Redsnow again and go to 'Extras'. Here choose 'Just boot' option and follow the instructions by putting your device in DFU mode. You will be back to normal.

Once iPhone 4 is back to normal state now you will have Cydia on your iPhone. Folks that have 01.59 baseband can freely install Ultrasn0w from Cydia to Unlock. And all those who have 03.10 or 04.10 baseband now will be able to Use Gevey Ultra sim again to Unlock their iPhones. Buy it from http://www.Applenberry.com. Make sure to add source in Cydia "cydia.furiousmod.com". Then install 'FuriousMod' from this source. Also search and install 'Mobile Substrate' from Cydia if its not already installed. Now you are in recovery mode. Either use 'TinyUmbrella' to get out of recovery mode. It easy. If you don't know how to you can search for this in google. Or put iPhone in DFu mode right now. Then do shift + restore and load iOS 5.0.1 (not 5.0). It will go through. Try using a different computer if nothing works.

@timmyo26 Unplug your device. Hold home & power buttons together for 15 seconds exactly. Wait for reboot. If I turns normal then follow the video again. Reboot your PC. Now make sure to put iPhone in correct Pwned DFU mode. Then hold shift+ restore button and upload custom iOS 5.0.1 (Not 5.0). You will get it this time.

Also a little tip make sure to use latest iTunes and make sure you don't have Cydia server in your 'hosts' file. You can search on google about this 'how to remove Cydia server'

Got a question can i still load a custom ipw frimware with the preserved baseband even if i already updated to the apple 5.0.1 release?

@JAYJAY1787 Yes you can load it till Apple is signing SHSH but you will not be able to to Unlock since you updated once to Official/Stock 5.0.1 firmware. Now whatever changes you do to your firmware, your baseband will not be changed. And thats what you need to Unlock.

@emac2299 i keep getting error 1601 on itunes when installing the custom baseband . im using a iphone 4 thats on T-Mobile ios 4.3.1 running on gevey ultra my baseband is 4.10.11. what am i doing wrong ? please and thanks

@AlexOnHisgrindd Plz make sure that you are updating to 5.0.1 (not 5.0) Also make sure to remove Cydia Server from your 'Hosts' file on your computer. And the last thing is Pwned DFU mode. You must be in this . And if nothing works then try on a different computer. You will get it.

i have 2 iphone devices. 1 of them was in att and i switched to tmobile. another iphone is on 3.10 baseband which i just start it to use because the other iphone bseband is on 4.11.08 which is locked and cant do anything about it. what i am planning to do is back up the ios from the iphone that i was using with att and transfer tht ios to the iphone on baseband 3.10.0.1 instead of using the customize ios that is used in this video. is that goin to work?
