Separate cycle paths in the Netherlands already existed in the early 1950s. It is no wonder the Dutch are so used to them. This example shows how a street in Utrecht with separate cycle paths has hardly changed in almost 60 years. The design has proven to be perfect in all those years.

  • I'd love that over here in the UK. What is the attitude towards cars that park in the cycle lanes over there?

  • Cars do not park in the cycle lanes here. It would be like parking in the middle of the driveway. But if you would you'd always risk being towed away. As is custom with all dangerously parked cars.

  • @MelloVEL0 totally agree with u...cycle lanes that are integrated into mainstream traffic are just madness, and definitely don't encourage people to swap public transportation for a bike.

  • Seeing how many cities in Canada still don't know what a bike path is, I would assume that the term "bike path" was non-existent in the '50's here.
