BMW Group will present its new concept car Vision EfficientDynamics at the Geneva Motor Show on March 4. It is the first time that a 4-cylinder diesel engine has been combined with BMW ActiveHybrid Technology in a large Sports Activity Vehicle. With an average fuel consumption of 6.5 litres per 100 kilometres in the EU test cycle and a CO2 emission level of 172 grams per kilometer, BMW Vision EfficientDynamics is the most efficient vehicle of its size in the competitive environment of the BMW X models.
in alot of cars thats scary to see that rpm guage drop to zero. specialy on the bad side of town.

It wouldn't suck, it would be using the same AC induction engine as Tesla Roadster.

the problem with that is yes it would be efficient, but performance wise it would suck, BMW is all about performance while still being efficient. Its a BMW not a Prius, so i wouldn't compare it to one.

I don't mean to sound pessimistic, but 6.5 isn't that good at all. They could have done it differently - 1.4L 4cyl diesel runs 25 kWh generator, which charges the NiMH or LiFePO batteries which in turn drive the AC induction or DC permanent magnet motor. That way they'd be using at least twice less fuel. Links:
