Steve Martin is by far the best comedian alive. He's intelligent, well-versed, multi-talented, and you know what – an amazingly nice guy. He's one of the greatest performers in our modern age, and I absolutely love him.

This is such a great take-off on Wally Boag's old routine! Steve is a genius.

No offense intended, by the way. For what it's worth I was born in 1990, I don't have an opinion on the subject, and I think you're projecting your preferences on the genre unintentionally.

Actually, smart-stuff, the ignorance in question has nothing to do with opinion. It's your ignorance of comedy as a craft. Some people spend a lot of time listening to stand-up from dozens of different comedians and acts, listening to interviews, reading their books. Some even writing comedy on the side.

That's the body of knowledge you don't have, allegedly, and rex is completely justified implying a smart person wouldn't make a judgement like that without much knowledge on the subject.

You can call it ignorance because you don't agree, and that's totally cool. I'm simply stating the obvious to people who predominately grew up with this guy and have a personal passion with him. He's not a comedic landmark in my opinion, rather a comic for those who don't understand comedy like you apparently do.

I'm a huge standup fan as I'm sure you are. Slapstick is a difficult thing to juggle. I respect those that are able to offer insight and control what I'm thinking to give me a welcoming ride during a show.

"Real comedy stimulates your mind and this guy is making balloon jokes and throwing out catchphrases. Pathetic."

Actually, there are SEVERAL styles of "real" comedy, including slapstick, satire, dark, farce, and others. The fact that you would publicly show your ignorance on this matter merely shows you don't have much of a mind to stimulate.

Well , you said right , he´s on the top 10 of the best comedians ever , too bad we don´t have comedians on the same level these days ... i mean , Chase , Muray , Martin they were all part of a great generation of arts and comedy , the proof of it is how SNL used to be the way it is today :(
