@fatglyn If you like this game you owe to yourself to get the TG-16 CD version of this game. Absolutely the best version out there, the only exception being the arcade version.
@christo930 Have to admit, I haven't played the TG version - that's another one for the "to do" list! Totally agree with you about one-button joysticks - totally impractical for platformers. I used a Comp Pro joypad with my old Amiga. Still one-button, but jumping was a bit more precise.
@fatglyn If you REALLY want to be impressed, check out the TG-16 CD version. It's pretty much arcade perfect AND has the real music (the funky version of somewhere over the rainbow). IMHO, the turbo-cd version is the best home version. The 64 version isn't bad. The Amiga version is great, but suffers from a single button joystick. I find it much more enjoyable to play the Amiga version on an emulator with the up JS remapped to a button.
@christo930 Having played most versions of RI, I have to disagree with you there. The Speccy's visuals were never anything special, sure (Speccy owners were used to that!), and the C64 version looked OK (but not THAT great, considering the C64's capabilities), but in terms of playability, the Speccy version was, IMO, second only to the arcade-perfect Amiga version. By comparison, the C64 version was clunky and unresponsive to play. Even the Amstrad version topped it. A big disappointment.
This really looks awful. The c64 version BLOWS IT OUT OF THE WATER! Why are the enemies translucent? I guess they wanted to avoid the terrible color clash that this machine is famous for.
