I don't know much about drag racing, but I heard that tracks are being shortened for safety reasons. One reason for that is that drag cars can't go fast because they handle so badly.
.
The other reason why rotaries got banned from racing is probably because only Mazda had the technology. Other manufactures haven't been open minded enough to take a risk on developing rotaries.
.
So it seems that most hard track motor racing on proper courses is a joke, because they should using rotaries.

It was interesting reading the heated discussion above. But its seem that the ultimate use for a piston engine is powering a large ship or in tractors where power is required on a consistent basis and weight isn't an issue.
.
On proper tracks with corners weight is very important. Why did rotaries get banned from racing ? Because manufacturers want to people to believe that piston engines are the ultimate for racing. F1 engines reving to 19,000+ revs is a huge waste of $

For the record I now drive a VW MKV 2.0TFSI GTi with a four cylinder piston engine with a k04 turbo upgrade and stage 3 apr software. It'll make almost 400lb/ft of torque on race fuel and 365 on pump gas. So I am not biased toward rotary engines. I just don't see why someone would hate on any engine with the potential to run down a Lamborghini whether it's piston driven or not. Closing your mind encourages mildew growth on your brain. Let some daylight in and sterilized that ignorance.

I abused the living shit out of them though and I would say that a piston driven engine would not take such abuse and would most likely be scrap metal if you did blow them under these conditions. I'm talking about hitting the redline in every gear every time I drove them. Getting 30,000 miles of roughneck hardcore engine abuse out of a powerplant ain't bad. Plus, when they would start burning oil or losing compression a low tech weekend rebuilt makes them as good as new.

I've had a few rotary engined cars and I can say that I put more work into them then a piston driven engine. However, they both were turbo charged and made at least 300 to 350HP(depending on fuel type) and were as light as a Ford Fiesta. I used to routinely outrun corvettes and mustangs. Not the top rated models like the Z01 and Cobra, but still big displacement V8s. I had two rotary engines and rebuilt one of them once and the other one twice in a period of four years.

@aji8 LOL bad sealing around the housings? you fucking moron you just didn't know how to take care of your rotary.... the only issues of seals are on the rotors... if you have overheating issues then you don't know what you are doing... goes to show that you have no mechanical intellect and all this bullshit you keep saying about the rotary there are just as much and more problems for the piston engine...

@NMCsala i thought he was conceived on a used Mc donalds napkin

aji8 was made in his fathers palm and thrown in some random pussy... thus explaining his "smartness"
sure. i prefer piston over rotor anyways but im still obsesed with those lil mazda drag car running 7's non stop...wheelin all the way down the track. whats wrong with that. if its a race engine you will probably rebuild it quite often...so whats the difference. its all a matter of opinion but you're just trying to hard to prove something...you post hate shit all over mazda videos. you're a bitch ass punk.
