As you may be aware, on the Morning Show with Mike and Juliette today on April 7, 2008 the founder of MADD, Candace Lightner was talking combating the idea of lowering the drinking age. Candace Lightner publicly said that young adults that are in the military are irresponsible. To take her exact words, "That's why they are in the military, because they are not adults." I served in Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan at the age of 19, and I got a minor in possession of alcohol ticket when I returned. I am a personal friend of Alex Koroknay-Palicz and the National Youth Rights Association.

  • .... Say they are

  • @suportable I can only assume that your brain matures at 30, that doesn't mean that my freedoms should be affected after I served in a war, 30??? Why not prohibition? Not everyone is is mentally incompetent as you and your so-called experts

  • @ryantravisaol

The point is, I was responsible at a young age.... I consciously joined the army at 17 and knew what I was doing.... There is no excuse for me coming home from a war on my 20th birthday and be discriminated against and denied the sale of alcohol.... I do not support this nanny state at all... Some kids may die.. Shit happens for the cost of freedom, but if "saving lives" consists of destroying the liberties this country was founded on, then what's the point?

  • "Drinking at 18 can servery damage the brain. They are not responsible enough for alcohol!! PERIOD"

Well looks like we have some kind of an expert here. Let's see if we can continue to be prejudice and just assume you are too young to drink at 18.

Also, you mention SAFETY? I hate to tell you, but SAFETY comes second, LIBERTY comes first in this country. Even at 18 some people can make rational decisions

  • This lady needs a reality check. Ma'am, these "malleable" 18-year olds who "don't think for themselves" are out their risking their lives, defending YOUR right to spout off conservative crap like this. This reminds me of that church in Kansas that protests soldier's funerals.

Candy, have respect for our military. How would you like it if you were shipped off to Iraq, got your right arm blown off, and then came back here and was told that you couldn't hold a glass of wine in your left arm?

  • @suportable No, that's when the person himself fully matures. Its called making mistakes and the way to easily prevent them is called role modeling. And the easiest way to model is get the welp into the same situation you are in and do something wise. For instance: sit at a bar and calmly sip a beer, then munch on some pretzels and talk football for 30 minutes before hitting the road and having them do the same.

  • @b0bbymx5 First of all, thank you for your service to our country. Second of all,

"They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety."

    —Benjamin Franklin

  • CNN said years back that she had been arrested for her 3rd DUI...

  • She must really hate America. It's one thing to discriminate 18-20 year olds but to bash the military. If it wasn't for these brave "children" serving in our wars protecting her fat ass she wouldn't have any rights or freedom

  • "They are not adults thats why they are in the millitary" (Candice Lightner) So your saying children are fighting for our freedoms? Please lady walk a day over seas with my soldiers and tell me these words.

  • OMG, someone tell this bitch to shut her face.

  • Moronic soccer moms who come up with these overreaching organizations. MADD isn't about stopping drunk driving, it's about stopping drinking all-together. While they target parents who have one drink of wine at dinner, or one glass of beer, the real problem (The slobs who drink 10 beers in an hour) end up killing someone.

Organizations like this do nothing. They're just as bad as PETA (Lost all sight on their original goal for another (completely pointless) path entirely.
