9 months ago I posted that comment below. Now after 9 months, I'v been playing and reading 4e to learn about it first hand. Now I can post an honest opinion about it.
I love it. I initially wasn't happy with what I had heard because I was used to the old fluff, but I completely love the new history of 4e. The dawn war, the fall of Baator and the creation of the abyss.
Since my last post, I'v purchased every book and been playing all the time. I'm very happy with the new system.
you roleplay just the same as you do in 3.5. im getting so tired of people doing this every time a new dnd edition come out, THE ROLEPLAYING IS THE SAME IT SAYS IN THE 4TH ED HANDBOOK THAT YOU ROLE PLAY SO JUST DO IT AND SHUT UP AND QUIT COMPLAINING ITS JUST LIKE ANY OTHER DND BUT HAS SMOTHER BETTER RULES SO REALLY ITS BETTER THAT ALL THE OTHER EDS, OTHER THAN A BETTER RULE SYSTEM AND FIGHTER CAN DO SOME COOL STUFF I DONT REALLY SEE A DIFFERENCE
I'm perfectly happy with 3.5. I also hate the changes I'v read about in 4e. Asmodeus backing out of the bloodwar. Tharizdun credited for creating the abyss or Io being dead. Just wrong.
It is not so much the rules that say you can not RP, it is the lack of rules that promote it.
If you must add anything at all to what the system covers, play a different game, this one is obviously not working for you.
Try something like Burning Wheel, or Houses of the Blooded. Those systems have detailed combat rules, and actually encourage...no they require you to actually role play.
Nice girl, the one with the blue hair :3

@splat78423 The bad reviews at first stopped me from picking it up, but my friend begged me to and it was well worth it after a while.

4edition is the crap. I'm now playing Rolemaster, Anima Beyond Fantasy and a houseruled D&D 3.5 with more complex rules.
