Inspired by kraftsportNO and tlast2O12dude I decided to get a little creative and record the next three weeks of Smolov which I will be doing for both bench press and deadlift as well as a skills evaluation (I will then be doing Sheiko #32 to peak for a competition).

I will just be showing video from the top set and I will have video for bench press in future videos just not this time.

The past few months have been fraught with under eating, less than optimal programming decisions and a lot of stress from life... as well as a recent squat preventing knee injury (nothing serious).

The last time I did Smolov base mesocycle was last year, I went from 155kg to 170kg squat. I want to beat my best bench press of 112.5kg and best deadlift of 190kg done in March.

  • Your knees will be the least of your troubles, your lower back will be quite fried to say the least. There are more appropriate programs for deadlift so I do not recommend Smolov. I only decided to do this because I had some knee troubles which prevented me from doing squats for a while.

  • can you apply smolov for regular (not sumo) deadlifts or is it too much on the knees?
