Mr Lewis (the renowned American sprinter and long jumper of the 1980's and 90's) did not compete in the 100 metres event at the Barcelona Olympic Games because, at the (USA) National Olympic trials which had taken place in New Orleans in June 1992. he only finished sixth in the final of the 100 metres sprint. I believe that Mr Lewis's surprisingly lack-lustre performance at the Olympic trials that year was the result of a short-term medical issue of some sort.

Do you really think that, that is a witty comment? I don't - and, moreover, I would be very surprised if anyone with a mental age of more than eight is amused by it.

I am no longer a fan or admirer of Mr Linford Christie, but to suggest that any Tom, Dick or Harry could sprint the 100 metres in 9.96 seconds (even with the assistance of illegal performance enhancing drugs) is patently absurd, so it is.

I suspect that you are still just a young lad - 13 or 14 years of age. Jog on, kid.

Actually, according to most evolutionary biologists, virtually every human being on this planet has African ancestors, if you go back far enough. I can remember Professor Richard Dawkins saying (on a TV documentary, a couple of years back): "We are all basically African apes, albeit highly evolved ones."

is no longer a hero to me. Moreover, I do not consider that he has been treated unjustly by the British athletics authorities during the course of the last 12 years or so. I would be interested to hear why Mr Fowler disagrees with me, in respect of this matter.

athlete throughout his career. The evidence, when considered objectively and in its entirety, does, i am afraid, STRONGLY SUGGEST (even if it doesn't conclusively prove) that Mr Christie deliberately broke the IAAF rules by taking illegal anabolic steroids to enhance his physique and his performances on the athletics track.

Therefore, this man - who, in his heyday, was one of the most famous and respected sportsmen in the land -

this man, and regarded him as one of the finest athletes ever to have represented Great Britain - on a par with Sebastian Coe and Daley Thompson. However, when it was announced that Christie have failed a drugs test in February 1999, and was found to have high levels of nandrolone in his system, it dawned on me that he had PROBABLY been a 'persian rugs' cheat for many years prior to that - and that purported antagonism

I do not mean to appear churlish, but WHY exactly is big Linford still a hero to you, and why are you ashamed at how this man has been treated by the British athletics authorities? Do you believe that Mr Christie achieved his major sprint victories - such as the 1992 Olympic 100 metres title, and the 1993 World Championships - LEGITIMATELY; i.e. without the assistance of illegal, performance-enhancing drugs?

I would like to make it clear that, at one time, I had the utmost respect for
