Senior year regular season stats: 440/.489/.655 + 19 RBI's + 20 SB (23 SBA) + 24 Runs Scored as lead-off/2-hole/3-hole hitter.

* All league MVP & Player of the Year

Hit a combined .367/.394/.522 through junior year & pro scout teams.

* Line drive, gap hitter mostly observed with 350' - 380' fly ball power when warranted.

Lead his team in doubles: averages 1 out of every 4.8 hits which also
explains his "clutch" stats: 1.2 RBI's per hit.

Hit .688/.683/1.333 in 2010 CIF playoffs leading his team to semifinal championship.

26/30 in SB.

San Gabriel Valley League All-Star past 2 seasons.

Great OF instincts & routes for kid that's only played organized ball 4 years.
(Soccer, football, basketball, & track previously)

Has benefited in that time playing for a high school coach who stresses solid fundamentals and for SoCal Rays (Pro Scout league) against advanced pitching using wood bats (his strong preference).

Has been observed during multiple games driving the ball 370 - 390 feet
to RF or LF using a wood bat.

Learned professional style rotational hitting from former Reds scout who tutored
Phillie's 2009 8th round pick Jonathan Singleton (Class A Blue Claws - 2010).

Graded at top 5%tile on nation wide Sparq tests as result of pro style explosiveness & weight training the past 4 years.

* Has 36" vertical leap (standing).

* Muscular core: 50'+ kettle ball toss.

Good makeup, hard worker, & intriguing potential as he continues to develop
along an accelerated curve in bypassing his peers.

Models himself after combination of Pujols (rotational hitting & consistency), Crawford, Bourne, Granderson, Hunter, Jackson for pressure offense & gap to gap defense in single package.

Does volunteer coaching at baseball camps for 8 - 13 yr old players during Xmas holidays.

Comes from good stock: Grandfather (Tuskegee Airman: DFC/Purple Heart), Great Grandfather (LHP Chicago American Giants - Rube Foster signee)

  • Voted league MVP & Player of the Year by league coaches.

  • vs Paramount: This kid is a machine. Yesterday, in the divisional show down, Newman was 3/4 + 2 RS + 1 DBL while batting in the 3-hole & playing CF. He also showed a strong throwing arm & exceptional base running during a tough team loss. At the end of the regular season, this consistent offensive threat's batting line is: .440/.489/.655 + 19 RBI's + 20 SB (23 SBA) + 24 Runs Scored.

  • At Paramount: Newman batted 2/4 + 2/2 SB while batting from the 3-hole in a must win victory for his team to battle for the division title. On the season, his batting line is now: .425/.477/.638 plus 20 SB & 19 RBI.

  • vs Warren (Downey): Newman went 2/3 + 2 RBI + 2 RS. He hit a 3B off the LF wall, but what stood out this game was his base running which demonstrated his above average speed & instincts. He scored from 2nd base on a bunt by the batter & in another inning, he scored from 1st base on a sinking line drive hit right at the oppo CF.

  • Against Warren (Downey): Newman's ability to hit from any of the top three lineup slots continued as he batted in the 3-hole yesterday. The result was 3/4 (1-DBL) to generate 5 RBI's to go along with 1-SB (18 for the season) to pace his team to a win over a divisional rival. For the season his batting line's now: .411/.456/.616

  • @ El Modena (Orange, CA): Newman illustrated why he's not a slap hitter with speed. On the very 1st pitch of the game, while batting lead off, he drove the pitch more than 380' over the CF wall for a HR similar to Ricky Henderson. Overall today, he batted 1/3 & patrolled CF. Like this time last year, he seems to now be emphasizing his SLG & RBI skills in the push towards his team qualifying for the CIF playoffs.

  • @Dominguez: Newman's string of multi-hit games was snapped by a 1/3 performance. But, he alertly took advantage of the SP who looked away from him on a BB by stealing 2B. Newman never stopped at 1B, he just took off. Heads up, instinctive play from aggressive base running allowed him to turn a BB into a RISP opportunity.

  • vs Aliso Niguel: Newman from the leadoff position: 3/4, 2-Dbl (1 was the game winning walk off), 2 RBI, 2 SB. While playing CF, he made 2 nifty catches: one was a diving catch while closing in on a low line drive. The other nice catch was in the LCF gap that he saved with an athletic diving catch to prevent an extra base hit. An exciting player with game changing plays on both sides of the ball.

  • vs Dominguez @ MLB Academy: Newman went 3/5 + 2 RBI + 2/2 SB + 1 RS from the leadoff slot & playing RF. He quickly set the tone for his team's win in the 1st inning by disrupting the oppo pitcher with a 1B + steals of 2b/3b and then scoring seemingly at will. Definite top of the order catalyst prospect: Gap hitter with line drive power, high OBP, effortless SB & rangy CF defense.

  • At Downey, Newman as the leadoff man, hit 2/4 + 2 RBI + 1/1 SB in a victory against the team's traditional rival who started a better than avg pitcher. Newman's hits were both off a decent CB w/some bite, so oppo pitching faces even more future challenges in this prospects continued adjustment ability.
