god bless them both .i always think of charles wright.he wrote a brilliant song of self expression called simply express yourself.but no one remembers charles for it because comptons least wanted hijacked it and whenever its played its their version thats played ,so who gets the lions share of royalties.the impression im getting is gangs own the studios ,you tow their line, play their music or keep walkin.that is an abuse of the americans right to freedom of expression

Rappers sample some music, yes, and layer their own beats and pay lots of money to those artists and sometimes even collaborate with the original artist. If they "steal," then they get sued! Listen to it, instead of generalize. Tupac, for example has an extensive talent for poetry. Real, raw poetry, and instead, used his talents to depict his real life on the streets.

Uh, I grew up listening to and playing Trauermusik and listening to gangster rap. Doing one thing doesn't mean that one must close their mind to the other (from a 33 year old black woman who won Music Memory contests in classical music and grew up in ghettos in Sacramento and went to high school in the SF Bay)...
