i personaly hate people doing covers.
musicians, or those calling themselves musicians should be able to write their own music. or even if they just get sombody else to write a song. why, oh why, chose to COVER a song??

The song doesn't belong to anyone but the songwriter. if he she decides to sell THEIR song then that is THEIR decision. By letting Westlife have a crack at it was a very good decision by the songwriter, he or she will make a lot of money off it... no disrespect to Daughtry but Westlife have been in the business a lot longer and have a much larger fan-base at this moment in time so its bound to be a hit.
And for god sake, its only a song. There are much worse things to bitch about in the world.
