1980 WAS THE LAST YEAR FOR INTERNATIONAL'S SCOUT WHICH HAPPENED TO BE ONE OF THE FIRST SUV'S. SCOUTS WERE ORIGINALLY CONCEIVED AS A COMPETITOR TO THE JEEP EVEN FEATURING FOLD-DOWN WINDSHIELDS. FORT WAYNE, INDIANA WAS THE LOCATION FOR THE FIRST GENERATION AND SECOND GENERATION SCOUTS. THEY WERE PRODUCED AS 2-DOORS WITH AN OPTIONAL HALF CAB PICKUP TRUCK WITH REMOVABLE HARD OR SOFT TOPS. THE FIRST SCOUT WAS INTRODUCED IN 1960 AND THE SCOUT II WAS INTRODUCED IN 1971 AND PROUCED UNTIL OCTOBER 1980. PRODUCTION DURING THESE 20 YEARS AMOUNTED TO 532,674 IN 1960 THE SCOUT WAS INTRODUCED AS A COMMERCIAL UTILITY PICKUP. ULTIMATELY, THE SCOUTS EVOLVED IN THE 4-WHEEL DRIVE RECREATIONAL VEHICLES FROM THE SEVENTIES THROUGH THE NINETIES. A VARIETY OF ENGINES POWERED SCOUTS THROUGH THE YEARS: 4-152, 4-196, V-266, V-304, V-345, V-392, AND V-400. SLUGGISH SALES BY 1980 EFFECTIVELY KILLED THE SCOUT II. OTHER MANUFACTURERS WERE CREATING THEIR OWN SUV VERSIONS WITH UPDATED STYLING WHEREAS THE SCOUT VIRTUALLY HAD THE SAME BODY DURING IT'S WHOLE LIFE. SO WHEN IS THE LAST TIME YOU SAW A SCOUT? THIS LAST YEAR EXAMPLE IS IN EXCELLENT ORIGINAL CONDITION WITH MINOR COSMETIC UPDATES. SO THE SCOUT WAS A FORERUNNER IN SUV PLATFORMS AND THIS 1980 IS THE LAST YEAR INTERNATIONAL MADE IN A SHORTENED PRODUCTION RUN. Another original survivor brought to you by 55lincoln.

  • In my comment on your video of the '65 Studebaker Cruiser I mentioned wanting to use some Scout names for some vehicles I've been dreaming up. Those names are Series III, SS-III, Traveler and Terra. Once I get my designs copyrighted I'll pass on some copies!

  • @OldcarsNmusic Sounds like a good idea and would like to see some copies of your new vehicle names. Thanks ever so much.

  • Looks like a win in the lottery, such a nice rig!

You wont see them much here in Switzerland.

    Greetz, Wodz.

  • @wodanowitz Wodz, glad you enjoyed this Scout. I imagine there are not too many of these in Europe at all. I doubt that IHC exported many Scouts outside the U.S.

  • nice vid. take the caps off of the description its too hard to read

  • @ShmeegleSon Thanks for enjoying the vid. Lately I have downloaded vids that do not have caps on the description. i apologize that this was too hard to read.

  • @libertyparchment Thanks very much for enjoying this Scout.

  • Very nice Scout. The windshield gasket chrome is a very nice touch. Now pour a mixed drink and enjoy the show.
