UNHCR has given this year's Nansen Refugee Award to deminers in southern Lebanon. Chris Clark, head of the UN Mine Action Coordination Centre in southern Lebanon, and his Lebanese and international mine clearers and support staff were recognized for their courageous work in removing some 150,000 cluster munitions scattered over southern Lebanon during the brief 2006 conflict. Their efforts were instrumental in allowing tens of thousands of displaced families to return safely to their homes.
