Patrick McGoohan was Broccoli and Saltzman's 1st choice to be James Bond. His series Danger Man was viewing on British television in 1960,2 years before the 1st official Bond movie Dr. No came out.Incredibly he turned down the role citing it as being too violent, even though when his series came to America and was extended to an hour and renamed Secret Agent in 1964,it became much more action packed and violent as did The Prisoner, the 3rd series he played the role of John Drake,an agent of MI6.
@rematpac how can you call "The Prisoner" especially violent? It is a cerebral, almost surreal, series with IIRC neither guns nor blood.
