A survival kit idea I got from an article in The Backwoodsman magazine. You can add or subtract anything you want to this idea. I have a Swedish firesteel that I could substitute for the magnesium one. Another idea would be to tape a couple lighters to the sheath of the knife. Just an idea I had after reading that article and wanted to show my own version of it.

  • love backwoodsman i just wish it was monthly

  • Is that LED light waterproof?

  • I subscribe to that magazine, it is great

  • I pick-up the magazine too. It has good info.

    Nice set up.

  • I finally got a CRKT Ritter Mk5 neck knife. I'd like to make something like it.

  • @HollowForm222 If that cordlock works the way you say it does, just a bit of a pull and it will slip off. Then that answers my question on safety. As for buying a commercial kit and hoping it fills yours need.. That's why you need to carefully look at all these survival kits on the market before you buy to make sure it comes with the 6 most important survival items needed in ALL survival situations: knife, compass, fire starter, signal mirror, signal whistle & flashlight. And if it don't..

  • @USARMYRANGERRICK Well, this video is based on the idea of MAKE YOUR OWN. As a rule of make your own, we are free to pick and choose what we want in our kit based on our needs. This kit was an idea. Weight depends on what I feel I need. Not just some commercial kit I buy hoping that if fulfills my need. And as far as breakaway, given enough pull it will just slip out of the cordlock cuz there are no knots.

  • Really cool little neck kit.
