Rams drop 3-0 match to Windsor Lancers

The Ryerson men's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 (25-21, 25-14, 25-22) decision to the Windsor Lancers on Sunday afternoon at Kerr Hall.

Ryerson was down 6-8 at the first technical of the first set. Adam Prieur (Tecumseh, Ont.) propelled the Lancers from a 13-10 lead through the second technical to a comfortable 17-11 advantage. The closest Ryerson came to the lead was when Harry Shannon (Whitby, Ont.) served up an ace forcing a Windsor time out at 22-19. The set would end with a missed spin serve by Ryerson's Greg McDonald (Thamesville, Ont.), giving the Lancers a 25-21 win.

In the second set, the Lancers quickly jumped out to an 8-3 lead. The quicksand got thicker for the Rams as Windsor pulled away with a 16-7 lead at the second technical. Ryerson called a time out at 19-9, but Windsor continued to roll, going onto a 25-14 set victory.

The Rams hit the court scrambling and were down 8-0 at the first technical time out of the third set. However, Shannon changed the pace with a conservative, but effective serve, stringing together a whopping seven consecutive points for the Rams, closing the 14-6 gap to a tight 14-13 shortfall. The Rams were within reach when Windsor's Josh Edwards (Kingston, Ont.) killed a ball deep into the paint taking the set 25-22 and the match 3-0.

McDonald was awarded player of the game for contributing seven kills and nine points for Ryerson. Chris McLaughlin (Ottawa, Ont.) added 11 kills and David Maryonowicz (Hamilton, Ont.) had eight.

Edwards accepted the player of the game title for Windsor with eight kills. Shane Byrne (LaSalle, Ont.) added six kills and four blocks.

The Rams are travel to Toronto next weekend and won't see home court until Nov. 28 when they host Laurier.
