This is an instrumental cover of Melt Away from Brian Wilson's 1988 self titled solo album. A friend of mine suggested I try writing some instrumentals, so to get in the zone, I covered one of my favorite overlooked BW songs and recorded a "vocal-less" version. My guitar is simulating the lead vocal line. My inspiration was those "Easy Listening" jazz LPs from the 60s that covered the "big hits of the day." Add in some samples of the Roland Cr-78 drum machine for that extra retro flavor, and there you have it! It was a fun challenge that only took one sleepless night, and now I look forward to writing some of my own instrumentals.
I just re-found this one on youtube. Great instrumental cover. You really should do more of this stuff (original or covers)!

@Taddoggg Thanks Trevor...yeah, I wanna explore instrumentals more. I'd love to do some originals like this.

I've always thought this to be an incredible composition that was never fully realized on the original recording.
You proved me right.
Very well done!

@tommyrock69 Thanks Tommyrock! What a sweet thing to say. I love the Brian Wilson original from `88, so it's an honor to have contributed to your enjoyment of a great song. I was originally going to record it as a vocal track, but I was groovin' too much on the guitar tones, so it sort of turned into one of those 70s "Demo Records". Haha. Cheers mate.
