I saw Ulrich Schnauss open for Chapterhouse recently ... fantastic set, however I only recognised a single track he played. I've obsessively listened to Far Away Trains Passing By, A Strangely Isolated Place, and Goodbye for years, yet most of it was over my head.

I recorded this track because I loved the sound of it and would love to be able to track down a proper recording somewhere if one exists.

  • presumably it might be on the new album...

  • @winterlightmusic I don't know. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely adore this track, but it kind of sounds like it would be a step back evolutionarily from Goodbye. Maybe a b-side to A Strangely Isolated Place or something.

  • such good memories

  • Confirmed by Ulrich on Facebook that this is a track from his upcoming album. Release date is Spring 2012.

  • resembles the remix of 'Setting Sun' by the Howling Bells that Ulrich did on Missing Deadlines

  • @greycell but honestly I see where your coming from, but I always thought Goodbye was a bit of a branch off, collaborative experiment for Schnauss going through ruff times. He claims that he is happy to be back with more pure synthy stuff, I think it's where he was going before he got de-railed :).

  • this song is really good... I think the new album will bet teh best he has done... sorry greycell :P

  • @greycell Ulrich said that, for this album, he wanted to move away from layering hundreds of synth tracks and instead use more direct synth sounds to "celebrate the synthesizer as a musical instrument in its own right". Might seem like an evolutionary step back, but I'd call it a step forward.
