He was the American delegate to the UN, and unlike John Bolton, gained a name for himself as a fair negotiator. Therefore, he was the only american the N. Koreans would negotiate with. Richardson's work in establishing a negotiating processs/dialogue could go some way towards averting a major global crisis. I would thank him if I were you.
