@huntinger I agree. In the novel, Valjean was originally angry because following the bishop's (God's) way would leave him without his defense mechanisms to deal with an antagonistic world. *However*, by the end of the Soliloquy, he must decide to yield to that challenge. Alfie plays the Soliloquy angry all the way through, so that the later change in Valjean doesn't seem to have any basis. Soliloquy is where it should happen, and I'm very sorry to say Alfie doesn't make it happen -for me anyway.

I've never seen Alfie Boe perform before this video and I really like his voice... but... he seems like a terrible actor... He seems totally unsure of what to do with his eyes or hands and he's hamming it up way too much.

Of course everyone loves Colm. This song was written especially for him. It is geared for his voice. The saying goes, "the minute you stop singing, is the minute you can sing no more." Colm still puts out albums and does concerts all over. So it comes as no surprise that he blows them all out of the water.

Hearing Colm and Alfie sing together is just God-like.... <3

Alfie shouts this way too much. It's a moment of discovery not shouting

@finolamulcahy I saw Colm as well here in Toronto. He's an amazing man!
Colm Wilkinson has still got it, he has a good 20 years on those others and he easily matches them vocal wise.

@emrabt Being Irish I always was a fan of Colm's and even saw him perform in Les Mis in the '90's but I really really love Alfie Boe as ValJean. His operatic tenor voice is just amazing for the role.
