An engine made by my brother using common houshold materials. No lathe was used to make it. Just a electric drill acting as a lathe along with files and a hacksaw as the maching tools. Based on a SE1a he had as a kid. The relief valve is from a hot water system and can be manually operated with the exhaust venting to the chimney which is also opened to the firebox. Gauge from oxy equipment. Engine frame supports from a toilet roll holder. Firebox gal steel. Flywheel is wood with brass bolts as spokes and an outer brass or copper ring. The whistle and burner is also homemade

  • wow no lathe involved thats something how did you make the boiler

  • @ShaurntheSheep

Thanks for that. The boiler is made using copper pipe/tube and thick copper sheet for the ends. Ideally use copper endcaps on the boiler as when soldered is stronger than the sheet

  • So let me get this straight, no lathe was used? I've been wanting to build Gauge 1 locomotives, but without a lathe, the job would be a difficult one. Is there anything out of the building techniques for this engine that I might be able to use?
