Spore is a superficial husk of a game.

in the old version of spore, that creature wouldn't have stood up. It would've had a lot of difficulty moving around and would've probably fell down several times.
Think of the old Creature stage like the current cell stage. Positioning of the parts MATTERS. If you put a spike on your cell's ass, it will stop enemies coming up from behind, and serve as a lethal weapon when you move the cell to his side. However, if you place the spikes on the front of the cell, you can ram other cells.
