I get a lot of questions about turtle keeping and often times they're the same few questions. So here's a video to outline the basic requirements of a turtle's enclosure to help some of you turtle keepers out there.

Note: I am not the end all expert on turtles. I'm just your average turtle nut trying to get some information out there to help everyone out.

  • Uhmm.... well, i have a question, @Boneyman do red eared sliders really need filters?

  • @MyBabyBudgies152 Yes they do. In fact after 10 years of experience I would suggest that you get two canister filters. In one day a slider can make as much waste as a tank of fish in one week. Great question though, pet store owners are notorious for telling their customers that sliders don't need filtration.

  • ive got a 125gallon tank spent shit lods on it and regret it becuase my map turtle dont seem to of needed so much space but its alway goo coz there more happy that way so keep that in mind people. also i got a tank with a built in filter and i put in a ordanary £20 filter and it is still a pain in the ass to keep clean any tips on that coz its so anoying

  • @BloodLust896 Don't regret the tank size since bigger tanks are always better. Map turtles live in large bodies of water in the wild. As for filtration first you'd have to research and understand how filtration works. Begin by understanding the nitrogen cycle and basic water chemistry. Monster fish keeper is a great forum to learn all about that. Turtles have a large waste load so whatever the filter is rated for multiply it by 3 for turtles.

  • "I like turtles" LMAO, me too :D

  • Can you look at mine and tell me

  • thanks man =)

  • @javialvarado1122 there's no such thing as a beginner turtle. But musk and mud turtles are a very manageable and hardy species. If you want to get into turtle keeping do some research in aquatics and reptiles first then combine the knowledge of both those areas together.

  • @megashadowkiller100 When they're tiny I like to start them off in a smaller tank. That way I can monitor their activity easier, it's less stressful, and it's easier for them to find food. Once they're "well started" I'll transfer them to an appropriately sized tank.
