I love Zhang Nan! She's one on a list of many Chinese gymnasts who never reached their full potential at the big events.  :(

I wish Zhang Nan success in whatever she does.

She was such an amazing gymnast. It is a pity that the fates were against her. (2006 worlds, she fell down the stairs the night before the competition. Had she been healthy, she would have wiped the floor with Krasnianska)

this is one of the times i hate the competition in gymnastics, when there is such disappointment <3

Yeah, I think she will retire this year. I've actually wondered if she already did since she said that's what she would do if she didn't get onto the Olympic Team. I did hear that she's a member of the Communist party a few months ago, but I don't think that necessarily means working for the government.

It would be weird without her though, right? I've always liked seeing her with the new quad, and trying to make a comeback. But whatever happens, she had a pretty good run.

Blinky, do you think that Zhang Nan will retire after National Games 2009? I hear that she is suggested to become a communist member working for the government, is that right?

Zhang suffered too many injuries so she couldn't progress or learn any new moves,while the younger gymnasts get better until Zhang isn't needed on the Olympic Team anymore. Don't think that she sucks; she could still hit a beam routine when the chips are down. But now Li Shanshan can get a good score even with a fall. China's team is so dense that they can pick the best of the absolute best, and many good healthy gymnasts are left behind too, like He Ning and Xiao Sha. And Zhang is 22 btw.
