Khairat is a small village in Karjat, around 100 km from Mumbai, originated by what once were nomadic tribes, with around 20 houses and 200 people. Khairat school is a one-room schoolhouse. It was the first school where OLPC India's Pilot project with prototype B4 XO laptops was implemented.
