It's sad to think this happened. All for what? stop communists whom never even hurt an American? they weren't there to destroy humanity, communism isn't an evil ideology it's a series of economic based politics despite some dictators in the past but at the end of the day, any ideology can have dictators, doesn't matter and ironically 'democracy' made the first shot in this war. It's sad how great men get caught up in between these things.

@ComputerIlliterit Yeah ermey's been typecast,but he was a different character in that shitty chainsaw remake.He was the only thing memorable in the film.And dye's pretty good,i loved his cameo in natural born killers LOL..''cop killing cocksuckers!!!''Saving private ryan's first 25 minutes are indeed great,but it becomes another sentimental,buddy war movie.I think full metal jacket is the best,because it never cops out.It's objective,no heroes,no sympathy toward either u.s or the vietnamese.

@NIHILIST53 Well EVERYONE has opinions...I wish that R. Lee Ermey and Capt Dale Dye would be in every army movie though, those guys are AWESOME!! I still think SAVING PRIVATE RYAN has all these war movies beat. The first 25 minutes of that one (Omaha Beach, D-Day) , it doesn't get more realistic than that.

@ComputerIlliterit EVERYONE'S a critic,they happened to pick that career.And yes sheen can act,he's a funny comic actor,but when he's trying to be dramatic?Well... he's even funnier,but for all the wrong reasons.And of course he was avenging elias,you knew that as soon as barnes fragged elias.The ending you can see coming a mile away.Full Metal Jacket has a better plot,originality,suspense,dial­ouge,acting,cinematography,dir­ecting etc. etc.Platoon's watchable,full metal jacket is timeless.

@NIHILIST53 Sure...that's why SHEEN has 2 Golden Globes and two Emmy Awards, right. That's your opinion and it's not what the critics thought, Sheen was lauded with accolades for this performance. He can act, Sheen's character was not supposed to be a psychotic in the end like Vincent D'Onofrio's character in Full Metal Jacket. He regrets killing Barnes but he was avenging Elias. A cheesy B movie that WON BEST PICTURE and CRITICS CHOICE of 1986? This is one of Oliver Stone's BEST films.

@ComputerIlliterit Sheen can't act,and he wasn't believable at all.Sheen shows no transformation,other than stone turning him into a cliched rambo type war hero at the end.The first scene shows him making eye contact with a vet with ''1000 yard stare''.But sheen doesn't have the ''1000 yard stare'' like joker in full metal jacket.After the first scene in the film,the movie becomes a cheesy b-movie,with nothing to say.
