The Share the Road campaign was created to increase awareness of the shared responsibility for road safety among all users of roadways - specifically motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians - in your community.
There is no requirement for cyclists to ride 6" from the edge of the roadway. You are safer getting further left, away from the roads edge, even if that puts you to the left of the fog line.
it is NOT against the law to ride double as the Police officer said. Infact there is No law whatsoever that forbids this. You must ride as close to the side of the road as Practical.
he is So wrong..inface there are many laws allowing you to take the whole lane at times when you ride...even the police sometimes dont know the law. Now i agree most of the time you should ride as close as Practical to the side in traffic..as it is safer..
The "advice" presented in this vid is not necessarily "current" nor commonly accepted.
Riding on the shoulder? In most places, that is IMPOSSIBLE as there is too much debris on the shoulder. Same for "ride as FAR as possible to the right;" usually, too much debris [at least in southern California].
This safety information is humorously amateur. Remember motorists: Always drive single file!
And riding as far to the right "as possible" is known by real bicycle safety experts to be dangerous, and lead to the bicyclists getting into a whole host of problems. I wonder if the designers of this video could pass Traffic Skills 101's written test, as administered by the League of American Bicyclists.
This police officer doesen't know S**t about bicycle safety. In most states you ride ''As far to the Right as practical'', not as far Right as possible. That is how you get hit, especially on multi lane roads.
You ride as far right as practical, not possible. Either ride safely and with enough room on the road, or get off the road. As for running red lights, sometimes there isn't another choice for the lights that are triggered by strips in the road.
i'm a cyclist, and i sure wish that more riders knew the laws and rode the correct way. drivers hate cyclists who run stop signs and people who do not ride single file on the roads.
so please, use hand signals and ride safely, so drivers respect us riders NOT hate us.
