A brief introduction to the hospital animation workshop, followed by a short film by patients at Leverndale Hospital, from 2010.
"Animation Project: Leverndale Low Secure. This project was delivered over ten weeks, with patients attending one two hour session per week.
For many of the patients in forensic mental health services there are limited opportunities to be involved in such a unique project. For the patients who do not have the skills or abilities to engage in other activities or a chronically unwell and have minimal motivation the project with Theatre NEMO has been an opportunity to engage in a fun, creative and successful activity.
The workshops had a proven success rate or attendance and engagement, with patients who previously struggled to maintain interest in any activity themselves becoming animated about their participation."
Theatre NEMO has an established reputation in delivering successful workshops in psychiatric hospitals in conjunction with NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde, helping to engage and stimulate those with severe mental ill health.
Activities generally centre on animation - character sculpting, storyboard and script development, use of camera and computer equipment, as well as set design and construction. Participants generally feel less stigmatised and isolated and have the confidence to take part in community activities when leaving hospital.
