@dazzzdelux I can't say so. After all, it's no more ridiculous than setting a national anthem to the tune of an English drinking song- i.e. To Anacreon in Heaven to the Star Spangled Banner. Plus, "My Country"'s lyrics do not disrespect the British. And finally, it's such a great song. Unlike the Star Spangled Banner which is about one battle, My Country is about America as a sum of many great parts.
@rahawk10 the point im making is that it is our anthem to change . it would be ridiculous if we made a song about Britain to the tune of the star spangled banner .
@dazzzdelux Perhaps I'm not grasping your meaning, but it sounds like you are making my point- you can change the words to fit your needs. It would be silly to sing "God Save the King" to Queen Elizabeth, as it's silly for Americans to sing either version of "God Save". Instead, Americans took a British Tune, added American words, and made it an American song- just like they did with the Star Spangled Banner by the way.
@rahawk10 well you cant sing god save the queen about a dead queen can you ? its our national anthem thats why we can change it. just like america can change their anthem if they want. for example , when they realise they do not live in "the land of the free" they could remove that part from the star spangled banner
@dazzzdelux Simple, you wrote: "this is god save the queen. you cant just rename a piece of music." As I pointed out, you can, and the Brits do just that with this very song. So are you disrepecting your past Kings when you change the title of "God Save the King" for Queen Elizabeth (or vice versa)? No, and I fail to see where is the disrespect when we borrow an British tune and add American words to it to form an American Song.
@TheCajunAsian well if we are going to go down that road , you wouldnt even have a phone line or a monitor to use this website if it wasnt for british inventors
says who? a 19th century forgery . you'll have to tell me the source of your information because to the best of my knowledge, and untill i am proved otherwise , the composer was Thomas Augustine Arne
@dazzzdelux Did you know that this tune was originally a French tune? It was used in France in 1686, but only adopted in Britain in 1744. Just saying...

Excellent job. And by the way, don't the brits "rename" the title depending on whether a king or queen is on the throne.
