Steve Irwin Day was celebrated Nov 14, 2008 at FDES in Summerville, South Carolina. Over 1100 students and teachers remembered and honored Steve's life and legacy. Our purpose each year, is to promote awareness through fun and education (pure Steve Irwin style!) We want to help others learn more and do more to carry on Steve's message and protect our world! Together we LISTEN! LEARN! AND SHARE!

Participation and involvement included conservation and wildlife projects, artwork, and outside nature discoveries to learn more about our environment. Also, much fun was had with "hands on" learning! Many visitors were seen throughout the school, such as alligators, tortoises, snakes, a tarantula, iguana, birds, and more! Everyone was asked to wear their khakis and two classes had 100% wearing the famous attire! They each won the grand prize and were able to adopt an animal from the Australia Zoo!

Many thanks to FDES principals, teachers, and the children for helping to make this such a special day and so much fun! Also, thanks to Roark Ferguson and everyone else for being a huge part of this day and sharing their knowledge and expertise, and of course for all the really cool animals! Crikey! What a day!
