When I went to the ocean to film the lava coming into the ocean, I had to stay a safe distance away because the smoke you see are actually sulphuric fumes. Even a few drops of this at the distance I was at actually stung my eyes. If you intend to view the lava up close, I would recommend extreme preparations as people have died. This was filmed in April of 2007 on the Big Island of Hawaii. The volcano is called Mauna Loa and is constantly sending lava daily into the sea.

Correction: This is a Kilauea eruption from the Pu'u'o'o vent on the Beautiful Big Island of Hawaii.

Thanks for the heads up. It's still a very beautiful place to be.

  • nice!

  • @jimwilt Mauna Loa last erupted in 1984 and the 1950 eruption reached the coast. This definitely isn't Mauna Loa though.

  • That's beautiful :)

  • This is a Kilauea eruption from the Pu'u'o'o vent not Mauna Loa. Mauna Loa hasn't erupted in decades and an eruption reaching the ocean hasn't happened in hundreds of years

  • nothing special
