All these people seem to assume that the American public aren't stupid. They are. Republican dominance in 2010.

Dear Republicans,
Its over.
-
The problem with america is that it only has two main parties--the Republican and the Democratic. So, as a result, American politics are like an ever-tilting scale. If one party loses its power, the other one becomes way too powerful, which throws everything off-balance. Even though one might dislike and disagree with a party, it is never good to have only one set of ideas to run a country by.

Republican party use to be about small government which was not taxing heavily on all people, less government intervention, no corporate favortism, no ideals of your on your own or only Christian's values. But I remember the Republican parties has we keep peace of the world and never go to war. Republican values believed that tax money should be spent on Americans but they have changed completely to favor rich corporations and to leave all struggling Americans to die.

I kinda have to agree I mean words like "trickle down" and "deregulate the markets and they will get better". Well it worked till now!
Also McCains taxcuts would go to 2% of the people. The rich people that rather invest somewhere else then in america! Hell if I as european understand that then there are troubles!

Sound just like a Republican!!! Msster deciever..Conservative huh? GW Bush...Moral Huh? Mark Foley, Jitter, and others..Christian? How could one be a christian and a racist at the same time??? Which Charlatan or Republican party are you talking about??

Note to Republicans: embrace reality. You will lose until you do.

David Brooks & Mark Shields can be seen every Friday on PBS'The NewsHour, usually towards the end of the program.
It's a shame Tim Russert passed away.
That man was smart.

i really like that dude at the end. he's a common sense/intellectual style of conservative that I havent come across very often, not the 'joe the plumber'/obamas an arab terrorist kind of simple minded thinker using lowest common denominator tactics. why cant more be like him?

If the Republican Party was smart, they'd listen to David Brooks, especially wrt Regan. Regan was President 28 years ago - the world and the problems facing America and the world are very different now than they were in 1980. All I could do was roll my eyes when Sarah Pailn made that "city on a hill" comment during the VP debate. There's a whole generation who are now in adulthood (and of voting age) who don't even remember Regan's Presidency.
Time to move on guys.
The Republican Party should split into two separate parties: The No-nothing, Sarah Palin, Anti-intellectualism, Ultra- religious fundamentalist, red-neck-racists; and the [semi] intelligent, educated, pro-corporate, plutocrats. Both should be minimized to 3rd party status. I hope we complain & fight against the Democrats as much as we do against Republicans and bring forth worthy Green and Indie party candidates of a more liberal, progressive nature and the GOP goes the way of the Whigs.
