Text:
Ich bin der Welt abhanden gekommen,
mit der ich sonst viele Zeit verdorben;

in meinem Lieben,
in meinem Lied.

Translation:
I've become lost to the world,
with whom I used to waste much time;
so long has she heard naught of me,
she may perhaps believe
I am dead!

It is also of no consequence to me,
whether she takes me for dead.
I can also say nothing in opposition,
for truly I am dead,
dead to the world.

I am dead to the worldly tumult
and I rest in a quiet realm!
I live alone in my heaven,
in my love, and in my song.

Original Text: Friedrich Rückert
Translations: Lois Phillips, George Bird, and Richard Stokes.

  • @Palvez and @dbrel - You're right! I did sound like a soprano, and now I am one. I am transitioning to Sopranoland right now. It's a fun and challenging place to be - but mostly exciting.

  • Beautiful quality of tone, whether soprano or mezzo! You bring such touching expression to this most deeply beautiful song of Mahler's.

  • I am very glad you're a soprano now -- so you can record things like "Ain't it a pretty night",which would be GORGEOUS in your voice!

  • You look and sound great

  • Beautiful-- but I don't believe you're a mezzo.. :) that is a nice soprano voice if ever I heard one.. !
