"King of Newygo," WZZM-TV, 1980

King of Newaygo was a 10-part investigative series that aired on WZZM-TV in November
1980. It focused on questionable deals and conflicts of interest involving a
ruthless real estate broker and public officials--including a judge, prosecutor and
state police commander.

The opening segment features video of the broker's assaults on WZZM's reporters and
photographers, part of his effort to intimidate the station. The broker was later
convicted of both misdemeanor assault (for attacking reporter Mark Lagerkvist) and felony assault with an auto (for hitting reporter Jim Riekse).

Jim Riekse passed away on August 12, 2009.
