Fields of Cloth and Gold 2009 (Part 3 - Dance and Feast)

Fields of Cloth and gold was a great event, especially since I found that it was the first time that this particular event had been held.

One issue that I have had since moving to midrealm was that a majority of the events are held at schools or other public buildings. For me, this ruins the atmosphere, so I just don't go. This event, however, was different. It had ample camping areas, nice showers, a handful of rustic group cabins for rent and wooded walking trails. The fighting field was tucked away in a clearing surrounded by woods and the feast (which was wonderful) took place in a large hall.

The fighting took place in the form of an elaborate four-team melee set. It was complex, but not overly so. No one could say that they did not get enough combat. It tested teamwork, individual prowess and stamina.

The entertainment happeded throughout feast and court activities were spread out throughout the event, keeping those of us who are alergic to court from feeling trapped or bored.

To summerize, this event has all the elements of what an SCA event should be like. The numbers were not what I would have liked, but that is to be expected for a first-time event. If you miss this event next year, you will have missed one of the most enjoyable events of the summer for midlands.
