Congratulations to Abba for their induction into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 2010! This rocking song is very suitable to celebrate this recognition!
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (RRHOF) Foundation announced on December 15 that ABBA, Genesis, Jimmy Cliff, The Hollies and The Stooges are its 2010 artist inductees. The original list of nominees were: ABBA, Darlene Love, Donna Summer, Genesis, Jimmy Cliff, KISS, Laura Nyro, LL Cool J, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Chantels, The Hollies and The Stooges.
The induction ceremony will take place on March 15 2010 at the Waldorf Astoria in New York City and will air live on Fuse, Madison Square Gardens national music television network. The 2010 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame performer inductees were chosen by more than 500 voters of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation. Artists are eligible for inclusion in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 25 years after their first recording is released. All inductees are ultimately represented in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum on the shores of Lake Erie in downtown Cleveland, Ohio in USA.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame honours the legendary performers, producers, songwriters, disc jockeys and others who have made rock and roll the force that it is in our culture. For over two decades the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation has been nominating and electing those figures and honoring them at an annual ceremony that has become one of the most celebrated events of the year. Once inducted the artists are further honoured when they are featured in the Museum's Hall of Fame exhibit, which includes a computerized jukebox containing virtually every song of every performer inductee; etched-glass signatures of the inductees; a film on three huge screens recounting their careers and music; and a display of artifacts from the current year's inductees.
See http://www.rockhall.com/induction2010/ for further info and the list of 164 past inductees.
There has also been an online petition to support the case for the inclusion of Abba in the RRHOF, which now has 3764 signatures.
Abba visited Bremen in West Germany for 2 days in late January 1976 to record the 45 minute German tv show "The Best Of Abba", which was broadcast there on August 21 1976. This show was first screened on North German regional channel NDR on March 31 1976. Director and producer Michael Leckebusch remembers "The four Swedes had two free days in their timetable and came to Bremen. They knew about my work, so there was no problem in getting them. There was no question of finance either since the entire show cost DM 6,000. It was a pleasure to work with them. They were calm, friendly, co-operative and very professional. We had to record 10 songs in two days. We added SOS (performed 'live' in August 1975) because of time constraints. The programme was broadcast in more than 30 countries." The songs performed were: Waterloo, Honey Honey, Tropical Loveland, SOS (recorded in 1975), Rock Me (this video), Dancing Queen, Mamma Mia, I've Been Waiting For You, Fernando and So Long. There were four brief interviews with the group between the songs.
Rock Me was recorded on October 21 1974. It was released on April 21 1975 as the B-side of "I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do" and on their third album "Abba". The working titles were "Didn't I" and "Baby". An excerpt of "Baby" with lead vocal by Agnetha can be found on "Abba Undeleted". After "I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do" hit number 1 in both Australia and New Zealand in July 1975 it was flipped and "Rock Me" was released as the A-side following their very successful Australian tour in March 1976, reaching #4 and #2 respectively. It was also released as an A-side in Yugoslavia.
Rock me, gimme that kick now
Rock me, show me that trick now
Roll me, you can do magic baby
And I can't get enough of it
Rock me, gimme that feeling
Roll me rockin' and reelin' baby
So don't stop doin' it
Don't stop doin' it now
Wanna be, wanna be
In my baby's arms
Gonna be, gonna be
Nice and gentle if you want me to
Just as long as I'm in love with you
Yours forever honey
That's what I wanna be, wanna be, wanna be
Rock me, gimme that kick now
Rock me, show me that trick now
Roll me, you can do magic baby
And I can't get enough of it
Rock me, gimme that feeling
Roll me rockin' and reelin' baby
So don't stop doin' it
Don't stop doin' it now
Wanna be, wanna be
With the one that I love, love, love
Gonna he, gonna be
With you baby every single night
I can teach you how to rock alright
Your sweet lover honey
That's what I wanna be, wanna be, wanna be
Rock me, gimme that kick now
Rock me, show me that trick now
Roll me, you can do magic baby
And I can't get enough of it
Rock me, gimme that feeling
Roll me rockin' and reelin' baby
So don't stop doin' it
Don't stop doin' it now
Rock me, gimme that kick now
Roll me, show me that trick now baby
So don't stop doin' it
Don't stop doin' it...
They get it on goodly indeed, rock on. ;)

I grew up with the music of the late 50's and early 60's. To me, ABBA is the greatest group ever bar none! Congrats!

Cheers Annie - I thought this was the ideal song and performance to celebrate Abba being inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame this year. It seems to have gone down very well, with 136 comments so far!
